Oral Histories of World War II Veterans: Students create a documentary of World War II Veterans using the iMovie program. The use of iMovie allows students and others to learn about events as experienced by the veterans themselves.

 

Millenium School Millenium School

Students who participate in the Computer Club at Millennium School in Homewood have an opportunity to put their technology skills to good use by creating a number of different projects throughout the year. One of the projects is to construct their own animated gif images to be used on the Computer Club’s website. Students will have evaluated quality, animated gif images that are currently used on the Internet. They will then use a paint program to create a series of pictures, drawing, etc., and save it in the gif format. Students will then use Gif Construction Set to produce the animated gif. Then they will insert the animated gif images on the Computer Club’s website that is tied into the district website.

This demonstration will show how a co-taught classroom can be transformed into a problem-based-learning classroom where everyone succeeds. The use of PowerPoint, Vanier software, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Exam View will be demonstrated.

“History Rocks” - students in a 5th grade classroom have helped to make their social studies book come to life. They have written, produced and starred in their very own movie. “History Rocks” is a television program that encourages students to believe that “History Rocks.”

 

Pana Senior High School Pana Senior High School

We will be demonstrating Rhinoceros (Rhino), based on the popular NURBS (Non Uniform Rational B-Spline) mathematics. Rhino makes it easy to build curved surfaces and free-form shapes, which are the rule rather than exception in today’s design world. Rhino along with Flamingo (rending software) images become life-like.

Third grade participants have completed a PowerPoint on how agriculture enhances our community. We have visited farms, farm businesses, and interviewed farmers. We strongly believe that agriculture plays a valuable role in the economic development of our community. We are excited about sharing our appreciation for the contributions of the American farmer.

Students will study cartoon movies and then create their own movie on PowerPoint using the drawing tools on the computer and a second movie by scanning their own handmade drawings into the computer.

 

Riverwood School Riverwood School

Riverwood School is an elementary school where technology is used at all grade levels. We will be demonstrating and exhibiting PowerPoint, HyperStudio, KidPix, Webquests, and other class projects using various software. Students will also be creating a PowerPoint on a book they have read, for Reader’s Workshop.

Students will demonstrate AutoCAD LT97 software used in their industrial arts class. Visitors may observe orthographic, isometric, cabinet, freehand or architectural drawings.

Students at St. Mary School begin learning PowerPoint in 7th grade. One student will demonstrate her project, “All About Me!” Another student will present his Illinois Constitution Review in a Jeopardy game format. A third student will display her State History Fair Presentation on the Susan G. Koman Foundation.

Summit School

The 4th grade teacher at Summit Elementary, created a project where the students would learn about another country through emails to another class. Each student emailed a German student, composed poems on Word, took pictures with a digital camera and emailed them, and created a class PowerPoint presentation about the information obtained from German students and other research projects for Multicultural Day.

 

Teutopolis High School Teutopolis High School

Students from Teutopolis High School will share production work from their television production class. Various television styles, including music video, documentary, and comedy will be demonstrated and explained.

Princeville High School

A survey of trees in the green spaces of Princeville is being conducted as part of the Urban Watch Program. Students used GPS units to log location, then used PDA’s for tree inventories and descriptions, digital cameras to document images, and laptops to design and post web pages. These pages are linked to University of Illinois (Champaign) and the Field Museum of Chicago.

Science + iMovie = 21st Century Assessment! Three types of projects that demonstrate how iMovie software is used as an assessment tool in science will be demonstrated: 1) Infomercials that describe alternative energy production methods; 2) Multimedia reports on physiological kinetics; 3) Entertaining explanations of discrepant events in the science classroom.

 

Bethany Elementary School Bethany Elementary School

This project, “On-line Book Chat” is a cooperative effort between Eastern Illinois University and Bethany Elementary 5th graders. The students from BES and EIU read the same book and discuss online. Email or instant messaging takes place on a daily basis for a period of about two weeks from their respective labs.

 

Carrolloton High School Carrolloton High School

Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, uses computers, software and knowledgeable users to make sense out of all the data and information available today. Students from Carrollton use ArcView software to manipulate data and to create maps about our community. While learning to use this software, our students have participated in the Community Atlas project which they will feature in this demonstration. In addition to our local project, students will also display information on GIS principals, uses of GIS, and Global Positioning hardware.

Tech Club was established by staff and students to give participants the opportunity to learn and apply multimedia tools and to work collaboratively designing, developing, and producing a quality product to demonstrate curricular concepts in and out of the classroom. Student projects required the mastery and application of iMovie, QuickTime VR, QuickTime Pro, and Web authoring.

“Bienvenido a Puffer” is our bilingual iMovie welcoming Spanish-speaking students and their families to our school. Writing, producing and acting in this video gives our 6th graders an opportunity to effectively communicate in Spanish, the foreign language our K-8 students are studying in the classroom.

For many parents, the school website is the first visit to a prospective school when searching for a new home. Project TNT (Take the Nickel Tour) is an online virtual tour of Immaculate Conception School in Columbia, IL. The ICS Tech Club has taken the Principal’s tour to a new dimension.

The fourth grade explores the regions of the USA. A combined effort of all fourth grade students in the district publishes a state report for this day and age, a fifty states quick facts website. Fourth and fifth grade students from Glenview District 34 will share their expertise in technology by demonstrating how they conduct the project process. This process involves using the Internet for research, writing a research paper, finding current events about their topic and contacting an expert related to their topic. The students then develop a presentation to share what they have learned using multimedia software such as PowerPoint, iMovie, Dreamweaver and Photoshop.

Cisco Academy: What Can It Do For You? We will explain the Cisco Networking Academy Program at the secondary level. We will investigate advantages to school districts, students, and business and industry when this program is implemented in secondary schools.

The students will present their projects completed in class on the topic of plate tectonics. Part of the requirements for the physical science course was to create a project using the Internet. This select group of special education students will present their projects using the on-line file cabinet of Mind University.

Students created children’s books using scanned pictures from phonics based books. Then kindergartners and special education classes were brought into the lab where we had a session of “E-Book Buddies.” Students were matched up to read with a partner, and a printout of their book was given to them.

 

Vienna High School Vienna High School

Vienna High School students have developed an interactive presentation based on our International High School curriculum. Vienna High School is one of only 14 high schools in Illinois selected as a pilot International High School. Several students have developed interactive presentations that allow fellow students to explore life in other countries. These presentations also include scavenger hunts that encourage the participants to gather information and complete questions regarding the country about which they are learning. By participating in the exploration of these interactive projects, students learn about other cultures, and increase their knowledge of our international community.

Our students will be demonstrating how to tape and edit movies using a digital movie program and the iMovie Macintosh program. We will also present our finished product, an anti-bullying iMovie.

Students will use the Internet for researching the Revolutionary War and also use the software programs “Inspiration” and “PowerPoint” to plan an interactive presentation from their research. The technology allows them to research and creatively demonstrate their knowledge of weaponry, clothing, and important leaders of the Revolutionary War.

The demonstration for the Armstrong-Ellis Grade School consists of a brief history of Armstrong-Ellis Grade School, small vs. large schools, the importance of small schools in our state, and why the state needs to raise funding for schools.

The 4th and 5th grade Gifted students of the Hillsboro School District will demonstrate their robotic engineering skills by creating a large sponge maze on the floor for Roamer the Robot to navigate through. The demonstrated program was developed through teamwork, problem solving, applied math skills, and perseverance.

 

Central A&M High School Central A&M High School

Students of Central A&M conducted a comparative field study of a pond and a creek. Quantitative data obtained from chemical tests as well as field observations of both biotic communities was compiled by students. Digital microscopy, Excel, and PowerPoint programs were used to put together their final field study presentations.

 

Daniel Webster Middle School Daniel Webster Middle School

Students will demonstrate how they use language arts and communications skills, planning and video production skills, and technology in a video project highlighting local heroes. Students show how they use digital video camcorders to shoot, and then how they import footage and edit their pieces for broadcast using iMovie software.

 

Armstrong-Ellis Grade School

 

Gallatin County Junior High School

We will demonstrate the potential of multimedia for exchanging information. Students collect data in a variety of forms: text, photographs, audio and image files. They then create multimedia presentations, translating between VHS and digital formats.

 

Golf Middle School Golf Middle School

Using the “Robots” module from the Synergistic System, GMS students engage in the principles of mechanical and structural engineering. Students understand and explore the many advantages of robotics in animation. Come watch our student team demonstrate the complex process of programming “SAM” to execute some remarkable tasks!

 

Hersher High School Hersher High School

The Herscher High School Computer Club will present a PowerPoint presentation on “Procedures and Instructions of Maintaining a Computer.” The presentation will be accessible via CD ROM. Live video clips will demonstrate each procedure with step-by-step narrative. A brochure will also accompany the presentation.

J. L. Buford Intermediate School

Students from the J. L. Buford Intermediate Education Center will demonstrate the various ways technology is integrated into our Learning Standards aligned curriculum using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, video, and peripherals. Writing, science, literature, geography, history, and Illinois history are some of the topics covered.

Three students will participate in a demonstration of a “Living Wax Museum.” Students have completed Internet research about their characters, completed computer generated timelines, learned word processing, Word Art, and prepared PowerPoint presentations which will be shown during the demonstration. Students will attend dressed in costume for the characters they represent.

 

Lowell Elementary School Lowell Elementary School

Students will demonstrate personal electronic portfolios. Their portfolios are a collection of scanned documents, audio clips, and other computer generated projects used for self evaluation and teacher assessment purposes. Through portfolios, students assume the role of directing their own learning while achieving District 200’s educational goals.

Will demonstrate the creation and maintenance of the website for Tech 2003. Students will attempt to photograph the students and their work and post web pages from the State Capitol.

 

Army Trail Army Trail School

Third grade students have been using PDA’s to generate their pen pal letters and for other language arts activities. Students will demonstrate how to use the PDA’s to type, exchange, print, and publish their documents.

 

Bloomington Bloomington High School

Bloomington Public Schools Technology Department will demonstrate handheld iPaq technology, use of digital video, robotics, and green screen technology.

 

Brimfield Brimfield High School

Brimfield Community District 309 is in attendance during Veteran’s Day, yet feels it is important that we honor our veterans and learn about the historical impact our war veterans have made. Our project focused on developing community pride by highlighting our area veterans’ contribution; while at the same time, providing our students an opportunity to serve their community. Efforts include, but are not limited to creating a website link to our student-created district website for veterans. This site will use digital mapping and database creation to map nine area cemeteries, identifying veterans’ grave markers, and brief histories.

 

Charleston Charleston Middle School

Eighth grade students at Charleston Middle School are developing a cloud digital image library. The collection will be submitted to the National Science Digital Library as a result of the participation of CMS in the Atmospheric Visualization Collection Project (Argonne National Laboratory).

 

Decatur Area Decatur Area Technical Academy

Lights! Camera! Action! Watch student-created video and presentations using some of the latest digital editing technologies and software applications. Students will demonstrate their technical savvy with two multi-media presentations.

 

Edison Edison Elementary

Students from Edison School in District 205 will demonstrate their use of the Alphasmart across curricular areas. In Language Arts, they will show the results of a webquest, and written narratives using digital pictures and Alphasmarts. They are eager to show their knowledge and use of the digital camera. Demonstrating on-site, they will conduct interviews taking pictures and immediately creating an addition to the classroom web page, “Our visit to Tech 2003.”

 

Flanagan Flanagan High School

High school students have created digital video documentaries. The DVD entitled, “Lessons from Salem” parallels the Salem witch trials and modern parallels of intolerance. Another DVD entitled, “The Life of the Ball Turret Gunner” features students interviewing a local veteran who was a ball turret gunner in World War II.

 

Garfield Montessori Garfield Montessori

Our students produce learning materials for classroom use. These are three part cards especially made for the Montessori curriculum. These learning materials are designed to be used by teachers for small group instruction and then by students as assigned work. All areas of the curriculum are covered.

 

Germantown Germantown Elementary School

This year, the fifth grade students at Germantown Elementary School participated in a unit of study on the human body. The unit incorporated the use of technology in an effort to engage the students in the learning process. During their study, students immersed themselves in literature found on the Internet pertaining to the human body. The information was then utilized to create technology-based projects. These projects will be showcased at Tech 2003.

 

Heartland Heartland Elementary School

Students become space explorers engaged in investigating various topics about the solar system, in a problem based format using technology. A first and third grade classroom pair up via the Internet from two elementary schools. Third graders assist first graders with research about the solar system through email and video conferencing.

 

Hillside Hillside School

The fifth graders will develop a presentation about an inventor and/or inventions on PowerPoint which will become a slide show presentation. The students will locate, organize and utilize information from various sources and communicate these ideas in a well-organized and coherent writing using correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization and structure.

 

Jack London Jack London Middle School

The project’s goal was to learn what technology was available for film making and to inspire others. Using a simple video camera, clips were transferred to a computer hard drive using Firewire. A program called iMovie was used to change color and add transitions.

 

Joyce Kilmer Joyce Kilmer Elementary School

Come join two 5th graders as they display the learning process they went through during a unit called, “Transformational Geometry by Using the Inquiry Process.” Inspired by MC Escher, the students studied and created tesselations by hand. Then, they used the software program, TesselMania Deluxe, to further their exploration. In culmination, the students scripted, taped, and edited an iMovie on their learning process.

Using Macromedia Flash, students will be explaining how a computer works. They will also go over the necessary parts that make a working computer.

 

MacArthur MacArthur High School

View student-created animations utilizing “Blender” and Maxon’s “Cinema 4DXL” software to create 3D animations to personalize and give dynamic appeal to a video production or website.

 

Macomb Macomb Junior High School

Adam is a student with special needs. He is quadriplegic who needs one-on-one RN help for the entire school day, as well as at night time. Adam will demonstrate how technology enhances him both academically and socially. Technology also made it possible for Adam to be successful in the regular classroom and be listed on the honor roll.

Why use Digital Photography? Digital photography is used a great deal in our school system by a variety of people. What role does digital photography play in the educational process? We have some answers. Come and visit our display!

 

Oblong Oblong High School

Our Introduction to Business class was assigned a video creation project. They were to design a commercial of a popular soft drink. The end result were two video projects highlighting the product in different ways. Students from the elementary school will demonstrate the use of technology with academic programs. Using timeline software and presentation programs, students will take information about historical events of Illinois and arrange this knowledge in a presentation format.

 

Pittsfield Pittsfield High School

All-School Memory CD -- students are in the process of creating a memory CD that includes pictures, video, music, and narration of the many activities at PHS during the school year. The students are responsible for the entire business process from creation to sales.

 

Prairie Prairie Junior High School

Our school will demonstrate two projcts. “RespectQuest”... The Advisory program at Prairie Junior High is run through a WebQuest (www.dist126.k12.il.us/prairieweb/advisory.htm). Each advisory is responsible for: 1) researching, planning and planting a garden on a reserved section of the garden site, 2) composting organic materials that will benefit the garden all over again, and 3) troubleshooting garden problems and finding solutions to probable causes. Both staff and students have learned a great deal about teamwork, collaboration and mutual respect. “WebClub 126”...Web Club 126 is composed of 5-8th grade students from all four District 126 schools who assist the Tech Facilitator and Tech Advisor in creating interactive web pages for their school’s website (www.dist126.k12.il.us/prairieweb/index.htm).

Our Man on the Moon: Project Cernan @ Proviso Township High Schools. 1952 Proviso graduate Eugene “Gene” Cernan went on to become an astronaut. Project Cernan is an attempt to connect the Proviso community of today with the remarkable achievements of “The Last Man on the Moon” and to inspire our students to succeed.

 

Proviso West Proviso West High School

The Mural Project is an ongoing interdisciplinary project (two years thus far) incorporating work from students in several different areas across the curriculum. Students from areas of art, history, technology and ESL classes have been doing research based on a large 130’x20’ mosaic mural on the west facade of the school building. The mural was created by a famous American Indian artist in 1959. The website created for this project will be displayed as well as photos of the rededication to the mural at our annual Art Fair. Student-created calendars depicting different aspects of the mural will be distributed.

 

St. Anthony St. Anthony Grade School

Students in 8th grade Music Appreciation study the different musical eras by participating in MusicLand Webquest. Students use the Internet to locate information necessary to complete their group project, MusicLand Theme Park. Students will demonstrate how they use the Webquest website and show a PowerPoint of student samples.

 

St. Mary St. Mary

Students at St. Mary School begin learning PowerPoint in 7th grade. We’ll be demonstrating music demos -- recording midi and audio to computer and then editing to video with Cakewalk software. We also use Aurelia software for ear training. We’ll demonstrate web design -- students will demonstrate projects created in class using HTML, JavaScript, and cascading style sheets.

 

Washington Washington Middle School

Using the Internet and e-mail, the History/Technology Club at WMS created a Tribute to the Heroes and Victims of 9/11. A PowerPoint presentation was the focal point of an all-school assembly that also honored community emergency service personnel and members of the military.
